The collection is inspired by suiseki (水石) – naturally formed “viewing stones” appreciated in Japanese practice for their evocative ability to suggest landscapes, natural phenomena, and other forms.
VIEWING STONES
Commissioned by the Cooper Hewitt Museum for its Nature Design Triennial, Shahar Livne created a singular jewelry collection out of an equally striking material – plastiglomerate: an emerging hybrid rock formation containing mixtures of sediment and other natural debris that is fused with hardened molten plastic.
Similar to Chinese scholar's rocks, they are used as a way to meditate on the constant change and flux of nature.
